Separatists in eastern Ukraine have accused government troops of the Ukrainian Armed Forces of violating existing conditions for silence. In the morning message of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on Thursday, February 17, this year isolated clashes between the warring parties are reported.
The separatists in Luhansk said that first of all in the morning in several places of Luhansk region there were shellings, as a result of which several dozen mines were dropped. They also report that separatist positions were shelled in the Donetsk region. They seemed to open fire in response. Both sides do not report their own losses.
OSCE observers also reported the shootings. According to their reports, there was one artillery shelling, according to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). In recent days, OSCE observers have noted relatively fewer clashes than last year.
Since 2014, Western-backed government forces have been fighting Russian-backed separatists in the eastern Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, near the Russian border. The UN estimates that more than 14,000 people have already been killed, mostly in the separatist zone. The 2015 peace plan is not being implemented. (dpa, Reuters).
